Vancouver Byelection: Lucy Maloney Enters the Race

Candidate Announcement

OneCity has made the first move in the Vancouver byelection, unveiling environmental lawyer and transportation activist Lucy Maloney as its candidate.

Challenge to ABC's Record

Maloney made her candidacy known by criticizing the performance of ABC Vancouver, the ruling party under Mayor Ken Sim. She accused Sim of breaking promises and harming the community.

"We need leaders who can stand up to Ken Sim and stop his damage," Maloney exclaimed outside city hall.

Former ABC Supporter Endorses Maloney

Former ABC candidate Scott Jensen, who now sits as an independent, endorsed Maloney for city council.

"I've witnessed firsthand her dedication to public land and community services," Jensen stated in a OneCity news release.

Renter Advocacy a Priority

Maloney plans to prioritize the reinstatement of a Renter Office, a resource that the city council disbanded in 2023. She aims to create a tenancy advocacy office as a focal point for renter support.

Progressive Party Collaboration

Other progressive parties in Vancouver, such as COPE and the Vancouver Green Party, have agreed to field only one candidate to avoid vote splitting.

Election Timeline

Candidates must declare their candidacy by February 28. Mail ballot packages will be available from March 18, with advance voting on March 26 and April 1. The general voting day is April 5.
